Dublin Pride saw over 60,000 people out on the streets of Dublin, marching to an event in Merrion Square in celebration of a great year to be part of the LGBTQ community.
On the 27th of June 2015 we ran the Dublin Pride event, consisting of a Parade from Parnell Square to Merrion Square and an event in Merrion Square.
We programmed 3 distinct areas in Merrion Square to cater for the variety of attendee-types we expected on the day. We had the stage on Merrion Square South with Le Galaxie, Jerry Fish and more, we had the family fun activity inside Merrion Park and we had a relaxing seating area with a huge screen by the concession units on Mount Street Upper. It worked well and gave people options within the event.
We worked on every element of Dublin Pride 2015. We managed the majority of them and the others, we advised the Board of Directors on. Specifically, we looked after the entire licensing and event planning process, liaising with DCC and all the statutory bodies.
Never in all the 50+ case studies we've published on here to date has this question more redundant.
In the year that we became the first country to legalise gay marriage by popular vote, what's not to love about being a part of the largest event of the year designed to celebrate all the proud members of the LGBTQ community?
We wanted this one and we were willing to fight to win it. As it happens, we didn't need to. Two people recommended us to the Board of Directors, we met with some of them, we all got on well and so it began.
We had people asking to work on this one. We work on a LOT of enjoyable events but we've never had as many staff asking to work on a particular event.
The day was an important one. The atmosphere was amazing.
We loved it.
Running an event of this size, marching through the centre of the city and shutting down a large part of it has many challenges. It involves a lot of consultation with a wide variety of stakeholders.
The fact that it's an unticketed event is a challenge in itself. Not having sold tickets, it's very difficult to plan effectively as you essentially have no idea how many people you need to cater for.
None of the challenges on this one made us question for one split second our involvement in Dublin Pride 2015. We relished the challenges and enjoyed overcoming them all to be part of this event.
'Along with my fellow directors on the board of Dublin Pride Ltd, I highly commend Cuckoo Events for the job they did on our festival this year. It was an absolute pleasure to work with Mags, Mark, Martin, Elaine and the entire team.
It was obvious from the outset that Cuckoo were engaged and understood the subtleties and special nature of our event, while coping with the large numbers it attracts.
They were always willing and able to listen and take our needs on board, and were proactive and flexible in their approach. I can't wait to work with Cuckoo Events again, and am delighted to recommend them for any occasion.'
