We were lucky to be involved in bring the biggest-ever outdoor slide of its kind to Ireland as part of Bray Summerfest this year. With 9,000 people looking to take part, it's safe to say it was a success.
The Bray Head Slide event featured as part of the Bray Summerfest programme of events for the first time this year.
It was an idea that was born in our offices when we undertook a brainstorming session with Karl Kelly who works with us and also as Production & Programming Director for the Bray Summerfest.
Karl and the Bray Summerfest team were looking to come up with a new event. They wanted something that hadn't been seen here before and that would work well in Bray and complement all the other established events.
A similar slide event in the UK happened earlier in the Summer, proving it could be done safely and done well.
Karl got in contact with the folks in the UK to make sure we got the best start on this event as possible. We learned from what their experience. We knew the issues they encountered and how they overcame them.
That said, we encountered plenty of our own issues unique to Bray and Bray Head. Luckily (well, not luckily actually, as we felt we'd need it so we scheduled it in) we gave ourselves a full day to build, test, tweak and improve the slide. It was a long day but we needed it.
The end result was a superb event, over 2 days that put smiles on over 700 participants and thousands more who came by to watch all the action.
Our involvement consisted of providing some of the production elements, designing and building the slide as well as staffing the event to ensure it was run and managed safely.
It was a brainstorming session in our office that resulted in the idea to do a slide event on Bray Head. We'd seen the event in Bristol and thought it could work really well in Bray.
Being involved in an event from concept through to delivery and seeing all the happy people enjoying what we put together is what we do events for.
There's nothing more satisfying than that and we love it.
The main challenge with this event was to ensure it was managed well on the two days it was running.
A huge number of people registered to experience the slide and, with capacity for only 700 people across the 2 days, this always meant it was likely that a lot of people would be turning up to watch.
Given the nature of the 'event space' and the amount of media coverage the event received, it was vital that the Event Management Plan be robust and allow for dynamic management on the days of the event.
The work was put in and it paid off well with 2 amazing days of activity.
'We brought in the crew from Cuckoo to work with us to produce the Bray Head Slide and without them the event would not have been a success.
The whole team went above and beyond what we asked and we would highly recommend them and look forward to working with them again.'
